Silver, Traditional Chinese Medicine

With paper made from recycled Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) residue from pharmacy waste, each brooch holds one person’s prescription— one is mine, which I saved and then made into paper as soon as I recovered. 

The form is inspired by the gesture of Tibetan prayer flags, which carry wishes through the air. Deeply influenced by my mother, a TCM doctor, I made brooches shaped by wind, worn on shoulders like flying flags that carry personal memories and reflect the healing power of nature and the beauty of herbal fibers and natural dyes.
